Toward the Sacred
What do you hold sacred, Traveller? Does that word 'sacred' scare you? Sacred: connected with God, holy, hallowed, blessed, protected, venerated. Is it too religious, too confined to a particular doctrine? Does it free you or shackle you?
I ask you to look at what would free you. What could you hold as sacred that would delight, comfort, inspire? What could bring you to your knees in awe and appreciation? A sunset? A garden? A smile from your beloved? All those things, and more, could be sacred if only you would declare them so.
You worry and fret over priorities, the next right move, the to do list. Anxiety rises with every email or errant tweet. So many wrongs to right, so many missing blanks to fill in. So many unanswered texts, calls to return, requests to weigh, meals to cook. What's important? And how would I know? You ask. You ponder. You worry.
Look away from your screen, Traveller. Let your eyes rest on the tree outside your window. Come sit with me and see through the magnifying glass of your heart. There are worlds not available to the naked human eye, but the heart sees what's important, essential, live-giving, and nothing else.
What enlivens you, invigorates your life force? Have you forgotten? It's OK, sit with me and your memory will jog.
When did you last lose track of time, lost in a reverie? What were you lost in? Go there now. Was it a book, a place, an activity, a scene? Give yourself permission to go there again as if it was the most important thing you could be doing right now, the thing that will save your life and that will save others lives—it's that important.
More than permission, consider it your soul's demand for the greatest good, for your good. It's that important. How does it feel now? It may not feel easy. In fact, it may feel overwhelmingly hard and impossible and you are not up to the sheer weight of it. But it will feel worthy. The idea of this thing that draws you in, that makes you feel lost in time is so worthy, so magnetic, that you cannot, will not, resist it one second more.
You ARE the writer/runner/mother/artist/leader you wish to be. You ARE the Champion you long to be. You ARE the teller of Truth. You ARE the Love you were born to be. You know you are all that because you have seen the darkness, too: the lies, the betrayals, the falling short, the laziness, the fear, the petty cares—you know them all. You can not know light without dark. But you do not need to stay in the dark.
Your humaness is sacred. Every feeling, every emotion, every thought and every experience is the Soul circling through human experience ever closer to Enlightenment. Why would you deny your soul that evolution?
Go ahead, Traveller. Feel, experiment, be human, see through your heart, and discover what is sacred to you. Then, as best you can, do only that.
